Experience
Mr. Meverden has over 20 years of diverse environmental experience specializing in compliance issues confronting manufacturers. His experience includes compliance auditing, regulatory affairs and project and staff management while employed by two multi-plant manufacturing companies and three consulting firms. As a Registered Professional Engineer in four states, a Certified Environmental Auditor and a Provisional ISO 14001 Auditor (pending), he has developed corporate, division-wide and plant programs in areas including environmental auditing, underground tank management, waste minimization and Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know. He currently provides high quality, responsive environmental services to a variety of manufacturing firms.
Environmental Compliance Auditing Developed division-wide environmental audit program while employed by Johnson Controls, Inc. As a consultant, conducted over 30 compliance audits manufacturing facilities involved in piston ring manufacturing, steel forging, plastic molding, battery manufacturing, chemical formulation, brass musical instrument and fabricated metal operations and plastics injection molding.
Regulatory Affairs Prepared numerous air, water, and hazardous waste permit applications and negotiated permit limitations. Developed SPCC, hazardous waste contingency, emergency response and risk management plans for manufacturing facilities including a national airline. Extensive experience in routine environmental reporting. Conducted impact assessments relative to major pieces of legislation and regulation to provide input in developing corporate positions and agency comments.
Environmental Training Provided client training and presented seminars and college level coursework on topics including Hazardous Materials and Waste Management, Emergency Response, Environmental Regulation Overview, Environmental Project Management, and the Clean Air Act.
ISO 14001 Implementation Performed gap analyses and developed and implemented Level 1, 2 and 3 procedures as part of two ISO 14001 certification efforts. Evaluated environmental aspects and impacts at a large automotive piston ring manufacturer and an aluminum die caster. Conducted employee overview training to acquaint staff with ISO 14000 and environmental policy.
Wastewater and Stormwater Management Developed numerous stormwater pollution prevention plans for industrial facilities, which included review of potential contaminants and identification and implementation of Best Management Practices. Developed Baseline Monitoring Reports for a variety of categorical pretreaters, including battery manufacturers, metal molders and casters, metal finishers, and copper and aluminum formers. Operated and maintained pilot scale primary, secondary, and tertiary wastewater treatment equipment during EPA-funded research at coke plants, an aluminum fabricator and a paper mill.
Air Management Permitted 4 major plant expansions at lead acid battery and plastic molding plants involving NSPS and non-attainment issues. Developed industrial strategies relative to halogenated solvent degreasing, urethane foam production and chromium electroplating MACT standards. Performed screening modeling to assess impact of new manufacturing processes. Participated in Air Emission Task Force to develop strategies and resolve technical issues relating to emission control equipment, real-time lead monitoring and Method 12 stack testing at lead acid battery plants.
Project Management Managed numerous petroleum and industrial solvent site investigations and remediations utilizing technologies including in-situ and ex-situ bioremediation, land spreading, air stripping and multi-phase extraction. Contracted and managed closure of four lead-acid battery manufacturing facilities. Projects included contract administration and management of remediation, decontamination and demolition. Total projects budgets exceeded $4.0 MM. Contracted and managed $1.6 MM closure of three hazardous waste surface impoundments including development of closure plan, bid specification and project management. Managed $800,000 asbestos abatement project at fully occupied nursing home. Project included specification development, employee in-services, clearance sampling and project accounting.
